Born on December 2, 1949
in the village of Salvard, Syunik province, Armenia
1968-1969 Leningrad A. I. Gertsen State Pedagogical Institute
1969-1975 Leningrad I. E. Repin Institute of Painting, Sculpture and
Architecture. Diploma
Since 1975 teaches at the State Academy of Fine Arts of Armenia (previously
the Yerevan State Institute of Art and Theatre); head of creative studio in
1989-2002
Chair of Painting in 1989-2012
1995 Awarded the title of a professor
2002-14 Director of the National Gallery of Armenia
2005 Awarded a golden medal of the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of
Armenia
2006 Awarded the title of Honoured Art Worker of the Republic of Armenia
2007 Laureate of the State Prize of the Republic of Armenia
2008 Awarded the title of Chevalier of the Order of Arts and Literature,
France
2009 Awarded the Gold Medal of Fridtjof Nansen Foundation
2014 Awarded the title of the "Peoples” Artist of the Republic of
Armenia
2015 Awarded a Medal of Grigor Narekatsi
2017 Chair of Painting and Drawing of the State Academy of Fine Arts of
